The process of rice whitening is held by appropriated machines that are equipped with rotary abrasive surfaces. The rice kernel external cladding is taken away by removing the bran layers, thus obtaining on one hand sound commercial rice, and on the other hand rice husk as byproduct. The Vertical Dry Rice Polisher Type SBR SV50/60, conceived by Sangati Berga, is in essence composed by three elements: the external (stationary) body, the rotor and drive. Raw material enters from above, and the feed rate is dosed by a manually controlled slide gate. It is subsequently evenly distributed by screw conveyor above the rotor.
Before being discharged the rice has to pass through a set of abrasive rotating wheels and the wire mesh screen that has appropriate perforations. Screenings generated by this process are aspirated through the screen, which holds back the rice, thanks to the external fan which puts the whole machine under negative pressure. For avoiding reducing excessively the pressure inside the machine, the distributor is equippedwith a slide gate adjusted with a counterweight, which keeps the gate closed until the product weight wins its resistance.
