Delivery of the Largest Mill of South America

Sangati Berga delivered Bunge Alimentos LLC the largest mill of South America, on September 11th. The Mill of Suape was in pilot operation plan since the beginning of this year, and it is now regarded the largest mill in the world, according to the president of Bunge. Its milling capacity is 1950 tons of wheat per day. With full opening, it is expected to produce up to 2600 tons/day in 2010. The undertaking counts on a storage capacity of 50 thousand tons of grain. It has been invested in this work R$ 165 million.

 
The event counted on the presence of Lula (Brazilian Republic President) José Múcio Monteiro (Republic Presidence Institutional Relations Secretary), Sérgio Rezende (Minister of Science and Technology), Fernando Haddad (Ministro of Education), Eduardo Campos (Pernambuco State Governor), Pedro Serafi  (Ipojuca Town Mayor), João da Costa (Mayor of Recife), Fernando Bezerra Coelho (presidente of the Suape Port Complex), Ana Arraes and Carlos Eduardo Cadoca (Federal Deputies), Alberto Weisser (Word President of Bunge LLC), Sérgio Waldrich (National President of Bunge Alimentos LLC), Amarílio Macedo (President of J.Macedo Alimentos Group) e Ivens Dias Branco (Presidente of Dias Branco Group) besides the presence of  most vice presidents and directors of Bunge Alimentos and the main representatives of the companies that have been taking part in Bunge LLC business.
 
Over the wheat mill inauguration address, in the Port Complex of Suape, south coast of Pernambuco, the President Lula highlighted the investments the Northeast has been receiving over the last years, naming the Region “investments center”. “Few people believed, some years ago, that Pernambuco might house the largest wheat mill in world”, he affirmed. 
 
In the event opening speech, Albert Waldrich, President of Bunge, Dutch company that arrived in Pernanmbuco in 1914, affirmed that the heavy investment in Brazil is due to the fact that this country has a strong potential in the food industry. The company is investing about R$ 5.5 billion all over Brazil, generating around 3 thousand jobs, according to him. In Pernambuco, the company has created over 400 direct jobs. 
 
Lula and Albert autographed a wheat sack, a gesture representing the official inauguration of the mill. The last one to provide his lecture, the President Lula also highlighted that this inauguration proved that the economic crisis did not reach that hard the food industry. 
 
Lula and Albert finished the event by pushing the button that set off the milling process of the mill.
